The iconic Sufi shrines, Haji Ali and Mahim Dargahs, have made the decision to postpone their highly anticipated Shamiana Lounge setup at J J Hospital Junction, originally scheduled for September 19th. This postponement is due to logistical challenges presented by the upcoming religious festivities of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi and Ganesh Chaturthi.
Sohail Khandwani, the managing trustee of both Mahim and Haji Ali Dargahs, explained the reasoning behind the postponement. The initial plan was to erect the massive tent, known as the Shamiana Lounge, on September 16th, coinciding with the Prophet’s birthday. However, in light of the Ganesh Chaturthi visarjan (immersion of Ganesh idols) scheduled for September 17th, Muslim religious leaders and activists have decided to shift the Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi processions to September 18th. While hoping the processions would be held on September 19th, the logistical challenges of setting up such a massive pandal in the short time frame after the visarjan proved insurmountable.
Therefore, the Dargahs have decided to defer the Shamiana Lounge setup to next year, ensuring a smooth and well-organized event. This postponement reflects the Dargahs’ commitment to respecting and accommodating the various religious celebrations taking place in Mumbai, prioritizing a harmonious and respectful environment for all.
