Halle Bailey Shares First Photo of Son Halo, Opens Up About Postpartum Depression

Six months after welcoming her son, Halo, into the world, singer and actress Halle Bailey has finally given fans a glimpse of the little one. On Wednesday, Bailey took to Instagram to share the first photo of her baby boy, revealing his face in a heartwarming family portrait taken during a trip to Italy.

The picture shows Bailey and her partner, rapper DDG, dressed in coordinating white outfits, proudly holding their son against a scenic blue ocean backdrop. The couple appears overjoyed, beaming at the camera with Halo nestled securely in their arms. Bailey captioned the photos simply, “Halo’s first time in Italy,” while DDG playfully asked his followers, “Who [does] Halo look like more?” alongside a photo of himself as a baby.

The couple had previously kept Halo’s identity private after his arrival in December 2023, announcing his birth on January 6th. However, it seems Bailey is now ready to share her little one with the world.

In addition to introducing Halo, Bailey also took the opportunity to open up about her own postpartum journey. She candidly revealed that she’s been experiencing “severe” postpartum depression, a struggle many new mothers face but often hesitate to discuss publicly.

“Halo is a miracle. He is perfect. He is beautiful. When I look at him, I cry because of how special he is,” Bailey shared via Snapchat. However, she also admitted that feeling comfortable in her own body has been challenging since giving birth. “The only thing that’s been hard for me is feeling normal in my own body. I feel like a completely different person. When I look in the mirror, I just feel like I’m in a whole new body. Like, I don’t know who I am.”

Bailey went on to address her mental health in detail, hoping to connect with other new mothers and working moms who may be going through similar struggles. “I just wanted to speak a little bit about my postpartum journey as a new mom, and now trying to work while still being severely postpartum,” Bailey said in a video. “Honestly, I have severe, severe postpartum… I don’t know if any new moms can relate, but it’s to the point where it’s really bad. It’s hard for me to be separated from my baby for more than 30 minutes at a time before I start to kind of freak out.”

Despite her challenges, Bailey ended her video with a message of encouragement and kindness, reminding fans that even celebrities face their own struggles. “Even though you may look up to certain people and you think that they are celebrities, and they appear to have it all together, you never know what somebody else is going through, especially someone who just had a baby literally,” Bailey said.

By sharing her own experiences, Bailey is helping to break down the stigma surrounding postpartum depression and encouraging open dialogue about this common yet often unspoken challenge faced by new mothers.
