Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari for the 2025 season has been fueled by a combination of factors, including the Italian team’s impressive resurgence and the decline of Red Bull’s dominance in Formula 1. As Hamilton prepares for his new chapter, he’s been closely watching the shifting tides of the championship, particularly Ferrari’s recent victories and Red Bull’s unexpected slump.
Hamilton, who has endured a challenging 2024 season with Mercedes, has expressed his excitement about Ferrari’s potential for 2025. He’s witnessed firsthand how the team has closed the gap on Red Bull, a team that seemed untouchable at the start of the season. “It’s been quite incredible to see the McLaren rise and then the Ferrari in the last few races, to see their progress,” Hamilton said. “I’m trying to keep an eye on everyone’s car and what they’re changing and what they’re adding.”
Hamilton’s move to Ferrari also comes with a sense of relief for Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff. In a new book, “Inside Mercedes F1: Life in the Fast Lane,” Wolff admitted that he had already considered the possibility of having to replace the seven-time world champion. “I absolutely had it on my radar that Lewis would go,” Wolff stated. “It also didn’t give me any time to react, I had to emergency call our partners, and I possibly missed out on negotiating with other drivers who had signed contracts a few weeks earlier like Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris. [But] I like the situation. It helps us because it avoids the moment where we need to tell the sport’s most iconic driver that we want to stop.”
Hamilton’s move to Ferrari marks a significant shift in the Formula 1 landscape. With a formidable new teammate in Charles Leclerc and the team’s recent momentum, Hamilton could be poised to contend for a record-breaking eighth world championship title. However, he will need to navigate a challenging environment with a new team, new cars, and a competitive field. The 2025 season promises to be a thrilling one, with Hamilton’s move to Ferrari adding a layer of intrigue to the already unpredictable championship.
