Jayson Shaw, the reigning Hanoi Open Pool Championship title holder and a Mosconi Cup star, is set to return to Hanoi this year to defend his title. The tournament, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, boasts a stellar line-up that includes local luminaries Duong Quoc Hoang and Nguyen Anh Tuan, as well as top Asian players like Ko Pin Yi, Dang Jin Hu, Aloysius Yapp, Michael Feliciano, Carl Biado, and Ko Ping Chung.
Similar to last year’s tournament, the winner of the 2024 Hanoi Open will secure the third automatic qualifying spot for this year’s Mosconi Cup. Shaw expressed his excitement about returning to Hanoi as the defending champion. He said, “Competing in Vietnam last year and witnessing the ‘Hanoi Hype’ first hand was unmatched. I’m grateful for the opportunity to showcase my skills in front of such a passionate pool community, and I look forward to soaking it all in once again.”
The Hanoi Open will feature 256 players competing for a prize fund of $200,000 over six days from October 8-13. Sky Sports will broadcast the last two days of this year’s championship live. The tournament aims to build upon the overwhelming success of last year’s event, which attracted 3,000 fans to the final. This year’s event will boast an even stronger line-up, with the top 128 professionals from the World Nineball Tour and global qualifiers of 2024 confirmed to participate. The qualifiers will be announced in the coming months.
The Hanoi Open will follow a similar format to last year, with 256 players, including 128 Matchroom-signed professionals from across the globe, competing for a grand prize pool of $200,000.
