Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2024 campaign has hit a roadblock after a disappointing defeat to the Rajasthan Royals. The Hardik Pandya-led side has managed to secure just six points from eight matches, leaving them with an uphill battle to qualify for the playoffs. They must win all their remaining matches to stay in contention.
Pandya’s performance as both a player and captain has been under scrutiny. Since taking over from Rohit Sharma as skipper, he has not led MI to the IPL title. Despite expectations from fans, legendary India batter Virender Sehwag believes Pandya should focus on his own game.
Sehwag drew parallels to Rohit Sharma’s tenure as MI captain, highlighting that even Sharma did not win the IPL during his last two to three seasons in charge. He advised Pandya to prioritize his own performance and not succumb to pressure.
Sehwag also suggested that Pandya should move himself up the batting order to face more deliveries and build confidence. In previous seasons with the Gujarat Titans, Pandya batted at number four, but against the Royals, he came in at number seven despite his team losing three quick wickets in the powerplay.
Sehwag emphasized that Pandya needs to give himself more opportunities at the crease. He believes that batting higher up the order will not only improve Pandya’s batting but also positively impact his bowling and captaincy.
