Vice President Kamala Harris took a jab at former President Donald Trump during a campaign stop in Pennsylvania, calling him a ‘coward’ for his divisive rhetoric. The vice president, appearing at a campaign field office in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, contrasted her leadership style with Trump’s, known for his aggressive and often insulting campaign tactics. She stated that true strength in leadership lies in uplifting people, not tearing them down. While not mentioning Trump by name, Harris directly targeted his approach, asserting that anyone who focuses on beating down others is a ‘coward.’
The visit to Pennsylvania was the first stop for Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, on a campaign bus tour through the state. This barnstorming tour comes just before the start of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Pennsylvania, with its 19 electoral votes, is considered a crucial battleground state, likely determining the outcome of the 2024 presidential election.
Trump’s campaign has also been focusing heavily on Pennsylvania. He held a rally in Wilkes Barre on Saturday, declaring that he is ‘winning by a lot’ in the state. However, recent polls show a tight race. Both campaigns are emphasizing the importance of Pennsylvania, with Harris having made Philadelphia her first stop after announcing Walz as her running mate. Trump and his running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio, are scheduled to hold events focused on the economy in the state on Monday.
The Trump campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, responded to Harris’s criticism by highlighting the lack of a major news conference or media interview by the vice president since she became the Democratic nominee. He labeled the Harris campaign as ‘liars, frauds, and cowards,’ claiming she avoids interviews out of fear of exposure. This back-and-forth underscores the heated political climate in Pennsylvania, which is shaping up to be a key battleground in the upcoming election.
