Get ready to witness a new generation of wizards take on Hogwarts! HBO has begun the casting process for its highly anticipated Harry Potter TV series, seeking young actors to portray the iconic trio of Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The news, initially discovered by eagle-eyed fans online, was confirmed by HBO to Variety.
The casting call is open to children aged 9-11 residing in the UK and Ireland, with a strong emphasis on inclusivity and diversity. HBO has stated that they are committed to casting a “broad and diverse” cast, ensuring that all roles are open to actors of all ethnicities, genders, abilities, races, sexual orientations, and gender identities.
To apply, aspiring young actors need to submit two self-tapes. The first tape requires a short performance, avoiding any Harry Potter quotes. Instead, they are encouraged to choose a short poem, story, or even their favorite book excerpt. This self-tape should be a maximum of 30 seconds, spoken in their natural accent. The second self-tape asks for basic personal information, including their birthday, height, address, family members, close friends, and even pets. This video should be under one minute, also spoken in their natural accent.
The casting deadline is October 31st, with filming scheduled to take place in the UK between 2025 and 2026. The series is expected to span seven seasons, adapting each of J.K. Rowling’s books, with season one slated for release in 2026.
Emmy-winning writer Francesca Gardiner, known for her work on ‘Succession,’ will serve as the showrunner and writer. Mark Mylod, director of ‘The Menu’ and a frequent collaborator on ‘Succession,’ will be an executive producer and direct multiple episodes. Warner Bros. Discovery has stated that they are committed to staying true to the source material and showcasing the intricate details and beloved characters that have captivated fans for over 25 years. They are eager to introduce a new generation to the magic of Harry Potter.
