Hartalika Teej, a deeply revered Hindu festival, is celebrated with great devotion on the Tritiya of Shukla Paksha in the Bhadrapada month. This year, it falls on August 22nd, 2024. The festival is dedicated to the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, symbolizing marital harmony, love, and prosperity.
On this auspicious day, married women observe a strict fast, abstaining from food and water from sunrise on Teej to sunrise on Chaturthi. They pray for the well-being of their husbands and seek blessings for a happy and fulfilling married life. Additionally, many women also pray for the gift of children.
To commemorate the occasion, devotees create temporary idols of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati from sand. They offer prayers and perform puja, seeking their blessings and guidance.
The rituals begin before the fast with the consumption of a satvik meal called Sargi during Brahma Muhurta. This meal typically consists of fruits and sweets. Throughout the day, women refrain from eating or drinking, however, those with health concerns may consume fruits or juice after the puja.
The fast is broken on the following day at sunrise with the consumption of soaked black gram and cucumber. After breaking the fast, a special meal is enjoyed with family and friends, marking the end of this spiritual observance.
Hartalika Teej is a time for reflection, devotion, and seeking blessings from the divine couple. It is a celebration of the power of love, commitment, and the enduring bond between spouses.
Wishing you a joyous and blessed Hartalika Teej 2024! May Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati shower you with their blessings and grant you a life filled with love, happiness, and prosperity.
