Harvey Weinstein, the former Hollywood mogul, has been hospitalized in New York City after returning from prison. According to his attorney, Arthur Aidala, Weinstein was transferred to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan from city jails on Friday. Aidala stated that Weinstein is undergoing various medical tests due to his deteriorating physical health. He described his client’s condition as ‘a train wreck health wise’ and mentioned that Weinstein has a history of cardiac issues, diabetes, sleep apnea, and eye problems. Weinstein arrived in New York City on Friday after a New York Court of Appeals ruling overturned his previous convictions and ordered a retrial. He had been serving a 23-year sentence for charges related to sexual assault. However, the court found that the trial judge had allowed jurors to consider irrelevant evidence, leading to the reversal of the convictions. Weinstein remains in custody as he faces additional rape and sexual assault charges from incidents in 2006 and 2013. Aidala spoke to Weinstein on Friday and described him as ‘sharp as a tack’ mentally but with ongoing physical ailments. He criticized the treatment Weinstein received during his transfer from prison, alleging that he was denied food, water, and bathroom breaks. The lawyer emphasized that Weinstein is a ’72-year-old sickly man.’ While Weinstein is expected to return to Rikers Island jail complex after his medical evaluation, Aidala plans to request a delay in his retrial until after Labor Day.
