Haryana BJP Govt is ‘Partly Ineffective, Partly Indifferent, and Wholly Useless’: Bhupinder Singh Hooda

Former Haryana Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday said that the BJP government in Haryana is “half helpless, half callous, and completely useless”. Commenting on the overall tenure of the state government, Hooda said that instead of seeking votes, the BJP in Haryana should seek forgiveness from the public.

“Instead of giving hollow speeches from the podiums, the government should look at their own statistics. Statistics show that the BJP has taken the most prosperous state in the country before 2014 to the number one position in poverty,” he said.

“The Family ID data prepared by the BJP itself shows that 63% of Haryana’s population is trapped in the quagmire of poverty. Out of the 2.86 crore population of Haryana, 1.8 crore, i.e., about 45 lakh families, have fallen below the poverty line,” he said.

“In such a situation, the question arises whether the BJP is going among the people in the elections with the achievement of making the people of Haryana poor? Is the BJP asking for votes from the public with the promise of taking the state further into the abyss in the future?” he questioned.

Hooda said that apart from poverty, the unemployment figures released by the central government itself expose the state government.

“Central government data shows that during the BJP’s tenure, unemployment in Haryana has increased three times compared to the Congress government. Data from various agencies have repeatedly shown that Haryana is number one in unemployment,” he pointed out.

Talking about rampant crime, he said that the Social Progress Index of the central government itself describes Haryana as the most unsafe state in the country.

“The question arises whether the BJP is seeking votes by taking advantage of putting people’s life and property at risk,” he asked.

Hooda further said that on the economic front, the BJP’s achievement has been zero.

“In the year 2014-15, Haryana’s GSDP was Rs 4.5 lakh crore, and the internal state debt was Rs 70,931 crore. Whereas in the year 2023-24, the GSDP has almost doubled to 10 lakh crore, but if all the debts and liabilities are added, the debt figure has increased seven and a half times, to about Rs 4.5 lakh crore. That is, during the BJP’s tenure, the state’s GDP has barely doubled, and the debt has increased manifold,” he pointed out.

The former Chief Minister said that the BJP has no work to show in any sector.

“The BJP, which makes big claims, should explain why their work is not benefiting the public? Why are poverty, unemployment, crime, and debt increasing instead of decreasing in Haryana?” he demanded.
