Haryana Earns Rs 1,756 Crore from Liquor Shop Auctions in Gurugram

The Haryana government has achieved a significant financial gain of Rs 1,756 crore through the e-tender auction of 162 liquor shops spread across the East and West zones of Gurugram. This auction process was conducted in accordance with the New Excise Policy, which allowed for online tenders to be submitted. The East zone, known for its affluent neighborhoods, witnessed intense bidding, resulting in the highest bid of Rs 50.57 crore for a wine shop strategically located on the Golf Course Road. Another liquor vend near Bristol Chowk fetched an impressive Rs 48.28 crore, demonstrating the competitive nature of the auction process.

Previously, the East Zone comprised 69 sectors, but under the updated policy, this number has been streamlined to 40. This adjustment provides liquor traders with greater flexibility, as they are now permitted to operate up to four liquor shops within a single zone. Gurugram is divided into two distinct zones for the purpose of excise administration: East and West. Together, these zones house approximately 342 liquor shops.

The Excise Department in Gurugram played a crucial role in facilitating the auction process and managing the revenue generated from the successful bids. A senior officer from the department confirmed that the e-tender process for wine shops yielded a substantial revenue collection of Rs 1,756 crore from the 162 shops auctioned in the East and West zones.

The auction process will continue in a phased manner, with the next phase scheduled for June 14th. During this phase, auctions will be conducted for two zones in the West and 20 zones in the East. Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner (East), Amit Bhatia, expressed optimism that the completion of the auction process for all liquor shops will further boost revenue generation.
