Haryana Elections: Over ₹23 Crore Worth of Drugs, Liquor, Cash Seized

In preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, law enforcement agencies in Haryana have seized a substantial quantity of illegal substances and contraband since the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into effect on March 16th. This includes the confiscation of 344 unlicensed firearms, 633 cartridges, and various forms of contraband with a combined estimated value of over ₹23 crore.

This includes ₹8.17 crore worth of alcohol, ₹8.02 crore worth of narcotics, ₹4 crore in unaccounted-for cash, ₹1.73 crore worth of precious metals, and ₹1.33 crore worth of other illegal items. Additionally, police have been directed to step up vigilance at interstate borders to prevent the entry of illicit liquor into the state.

Of the 1,33,505 licensed weapons in the state, 81,000 have been deposited with respective police stations in compliance with the poll code. Polling for all 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana will be held in the sixth of the seven-phase elections on May 25th.
