Haryana Records 65% Voter Turnout in 2024 Lok Sabha Election

Haryana registered a voter turnout of approximately 65% in the 2024 Lok Sabha election as of 8 p.m. on Saturday. This represents a slight decrease compared to the 70% turnout observed in the 2019 Parliamentary election in the state. The electoral process proceeded smoothly, with no significant disruptions reported.

The Sirsa parliamentary constituency recorded the highest voter turnout at 69%. The polling was marked by a high-stakes campaign, with the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Indian National Congress (Congress) engaging in a spirited contest.

The BJP campaigned heavily on issues of national security and nationalism, highlighting its governance record in the state. On the other hand, the Congress sought to capitalize on anti-incumbency sentiments, criticizing the ruling party’s handling of issues such as unemployment, economic slowdown, and farmers’ distress.

A total of 223 candidates, including 207 men and 16 women, contested the election. Polling was also held for the by-election to the Karnal Assembly seat, vacated after Chief Minister Manohar Lal replaced Manohar Lal as Chief Minister. The voter turnout for the by-election stood at 57.8%, according to an official statement.
