Haryana Student Shot Dead: Accused Claim Mistaken Identity, Police Investigate

A tragic incident unfolded in Faridabad, Haryana on August 23rd, where a Class 12 student, Aryan Mishra, was shot dead after being chased by a group of five individuals. The accused, believed to be cow vigilantes, claimed during interrogation that they mistook the boy for a cattle smuggler.

According to police sources, the accused received information about suspected cattle smugglers driving two SUVs and conducting reconnaissance in the city on the night of August 23rd. They reportedly followed the car carrying Aryan Mishra and his friends, Shanky and Harshit, for approximately 30 kilometers near the Gadhpuri toll on the Delhi-Agra National Highway, mistaking them for the alleged smugglers.

When the accused demanded the car to stop, the driver accelerated, prompting them to open fire. Tragically, Mishra was killed instantly near the Gadhpuri toll in Palwal.

Following the incident, five suspects – Saurabh, Anil Kaushik, Varun, Krishna, and Adesh – were apprehended on August 28th and remanded in police custody for two days. After the expiration of their police remand, all five were sent to judicial custody. The illegal weapon and the car used in the crime have been recovered by the police.

Further investigations are underway to determine if the incident stemmed from a past animosity. The victim’s father alleged that one of his son’s acquaintances was involved in a conspiracy to have him killed.

While the police statement confirmed the weapon will undergo forensic examination and investigations into the veracity of the accused’s statements, it refrained from explicitly stating their affiliation with cow vigilantism or the underlying motive behind the crime.
