According to a panel of international media and voting experts who met at the University of Massachusetts recently, the blatant spread of hate speech and attacks on journalists are more concerning in upcoming elections around the world this year than threats from artificial intelligence.
‘The experts aren’t concerned about artificial intelligence, but something considerably more traditional,’ said UMass Professor Ethan Zuckerman, who served as the moderator of a roundtable following the conclusion of the ‘Empowering Election Integrity in the Global Majority’ conference on Friday. ‘The rise and spread of nationalism and xenophobia across borders and on social media.’
