A tragic incident occurred on June 19th at an HDFC Bank branch in Mahoba district, Uttar Pradesh, when a 38-year-old employee, Rajesh Shinde, died of a sudden cardiac arrest while working on his laptop. The incident was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media platforms.
The video shows Shinde interacting with a colleague before suddenly leaning back in his chair. His colleagues, initially unaware of his condition, rushed to his desk upon realizing something was wrong. They laid him on the ground and attempted to revive him using CPR, but unfortunately, he passed away.
The incident has sparked numerous reactions on social media, with many users expressing concern over the increasing number of such incidents. Some called for CPR to be made a mandatory course in schools, while others emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle through exercise and a balanced diet.
This event highlights the growing issue of heart disease in India. Earlier this month, Amol Kale, the 47-year-old president of the Mumbai Cricket Association, died of a cardiac arrest in New York after attending a T20 World Cup match. In March 2023, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare quoted an Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) report which stated that in 2016, heart disease accounted for 28.1% of deaths in India.
Health experts have warned about various factors that can contribute to heart attacks. A 2022 article published in the ‘American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology’ revealed that individuals with a combined history of diabetes and COVID-19 are at a higher risk of heart attack than other patients.
The unfortunate passing of Rajesh Shinde serves as a stark reminder of the importance of heart health awareness and the need to prioritize healthy habits to reduce the risk of such tragedies.
