A government railway police head constable, identified as Kamalakannan (42), is currently absconding after allegedly molesting a medical college student at Saidapet railway station in Chennai. The incident occurred on August 25th, around 9 pm, while the student was waiting to board an EMU train.
According to police reports, Kamalakannan approached the student and began speaking to her in an inappropriate manner, attempting to misbehave with her. The student quickly raised an alarm, drawing the attention of fellow passengers who intervened and apprehended Kamalakannan.
He was subsequently handed over to Railway Protection Force (RPF) constables and taken to Mambalam GRP station for questioning. Investigations revealed that Kamalakannan was under the influence of alcohol and was waiting to board a train towards Chengalpet when he targeted the student.
During the inquiry, GRP personnel confiscated Kamalakannan’s mobile phone and instructed him to return to the station the following day for further questioning. However, he failed to appear for the inquiry and has since gone missing from his residence in Padappai.
The Chennai City Police have formed special teams to locate and apprehend the absconding policeman. In the meantime, Kamalakannan has been suspended from service pending further disciplinary action.
