Australia’s Women’s T20 World Cup campaign has received a blow with the injury to star pacer Tayla Vlaeminck. Vlaeminck sustained a dislocated right shoulder during Australia’s group stage match against Pakistan on Friday. The incident occurred while she was attempting to save a boundary, diving awkwardly and landing on her shoulder. Although her shoulder has been relocated, the full extent of the injury is yet to be determined and further assessments are scheduled.
To fill the void left by Vlaeminck, all-rounder Heather Graham has been approved by the Event Technical Committee of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 to join the Australian squad. Graham, who has prior experience in the tournament, having been a part of the World Cup-winning team in 2023, is expected to bring valuable experience and versatility to the team.
The Event Technical Committee, chaired by Wasim Khan (ICC General Manager – Cricket), consists of representatives from the ICC, Emirates Cricket Board, and an independent representative. Their approval is necessary for any player replacement in the tournament.
While the injury is a setback for Vlaeminck, Australia will be hoping for a swift recovery for the talented pacer and will be looking towards Graham to seamlessly step into the team and contribute to their World Cup campaign.
