Heatwave to Subside in Odisha, West Bengal, and Bihar; Thunderstorms to Bring Relief

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday announced that the heatwave conditions gripping Odisha, West Bengal, and Bihar are set to abate within three days due to anticipated thunderstorm activity in the eastern region. Dr. Naresh Kumar, an IMD scientist, confirmed that the heatwave conditions in these states will subside as a result of the approaching thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the IMD has forecast that the heatwave conditions in the southern Peninsular regions, including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, interior Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu, will continue for the next four days.

In its weather bulletin, the IMD has issued an orange alert for heatwave conditions in Telangana, West Bengal, and coastal Karnataka. The bulletin also indicates a high likelihood of heatwave conditions in isolated pockets over Gangetic West Bengal, Telangana, Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Jharkhand, and Tamil Nadu in the next three days.

Furthermore, the weather department has predicted hot and humid weather conditions in isolated pockets over Coastal Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe for the next four to five days. Additionally, rainfall is expected in Assam and Meghalaya, Tripura, Saurashtra, and Kutch on May 3 and 4, while Konkan is likely to experience rainfall between May 3 and 5.

In the northeastern states, light to moderate rainfall activity is expected for the next two days, transitioning into heavy to very heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, and Mizoram. The IMD bulletin anticipates heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds in Northeast India on May 5 and 6, followed by widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura for the next five days.

Moreover, light to moderate rainfall is expected in the South Peninsula region and East India after three to four days. The IMD has also predicted isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh between May 3 and 5.
