Heavy rainfall and lightning disrupted operations at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (BIAL) on May 12, forcing the diversion of nine flights. The disruptions occurred between 11:18 pm and 11:54 pm, with no flights able to land during that period. Seven domestic flights were diverted, including Air India, Akasa Air, Air Asia India, Alliance Air, and Vistara. Four international flights were also diverted, from Thai Airways, Thai Lion Air, Air France, and KLM. Operations resumed after midnight once the weather conditions improved. Traffic police reported waterlogging in various parts of the city, including Bilekahalli near Bannerghatta Road and Roopena Agrahara near Electronic City. The heavy rainfall is part of a weather system that has brought predictions of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds for north interior Karnataka till May 13. Heavy rainfall is also likely over south interior Karnataka on May 12 and May 13.
