A huge band of rain, seen in blue on weather maps, is predicted to engulf almost the entire country on May 5, with further coverage expected on May 6. The massive weather front, stretching from the far north of Scotland down to the Channel Islands, will bring heavy rain, with some areas of Yorkshire expecting up to 2mm of rainfall. Only central eastern Scotland appears likely to escape the downpours on both days. The inclement weather is expected to arrive on May 5 and continue into May 6.
A statement from the Met Office for the period said: “Into early May, something of a north-south split looks possible, with relatively drier conditions further to the north and the greatest chance of rain further to the south. Low pressure patterns continue to dominate with wet weather perhaps more likely to develop in parts of the south and east, though all parts are may see some rain at times. Winds further into the period mostly light to moderate. Temperatures will likely trend near or slightly above average, though some cooler interludes remain possible.”
This weekend, weather experts predict more wet weather on the way, with the potential for the country’s 12th named storm of the season. Another huge band of rain is anticipated to arrive on Monday, May 6, covering much of the country.
Jim Dale, a senior meteorologist with British Weather Services, previously told Express.co.uk that a weather buildup to the west could potentially develop over the weekend. He said: “This system is looking unnaturally deep for the time of year and could be fairly venomous when it comes in off the Atlantic on Saturday and through Sunday. It is looking like a pretty ropey weekend, with heavy showers and gales which, at the moment, look like hitting southern regions while the north escapes the worst of it.”
