Heavy Rainfall Expected Across India as Cyclonic Circulation Forms over Andaman Sea

Get ready for a wet weekend, as heavy rainfall is expected across several parts of India! The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning due to the formation of a cyclonic circulation over the Andaman Sea.

The IMD has predicted very heavy rainfall in South Interior Karnataka and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands on Sunday. Heavy rainfall is also expected in Gujarat, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Coastal & North Interior Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Rayalaseema, and Andhra Pradesh.

The cyclonic circulation, currently over the central Andaman Sea, is expected to evolve into a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal and the adjoining north Andaman Sea around October 21st. This low-pressure area is likely to intensify further into a depression by October 23rd, moving northwestwards.

While the IMD is currently unable to confirm whether the system will develop into a full-blown cyclonic storm, Director General Mrutyunjaya Mohapatra stated that the system is likely to impact coastal areas of North Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, and Bangladesh.

To ensure safety, fishermen have been advised to return to shore by October 21st. The sea is expected to be rough along and off the coast from October 22nd to 25th. The coastal region of Odisha is likely to receive heavy rainfall from October 23rd to 25th.

The IMD also forecasted squally weather with wind speeds of 35-45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, over the east-central and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal on October 21st and 22nd.

In light of these developments, the IMD has issued a light to moderate rain/thundershowers warning for the districts of south Odisha and north coastal Odisha. Dry weather is expected to prevail over the districts of north interior Odisha. Isolated thunderstorms with lightning are also anticipated in the Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts.

Stay tuned for updates from the IMD as the situation develops, and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this period of heavy rainfall.
