Heavy rainfall is anticipated across several Indian states on June 27, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an Orange alert, the second-highest level of warning. The regions under this alert include Karnataka, Goa, Kerala, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh.
The IMD, in a press release dated June 26, predicted heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana on June 27, extending to Andhra Pradesh and Kerala until June 28. Gujarat, Goa, Maharashtra, and Karnataka are also expected to experience heavy rainfall until June 30.
The weather agency anticipates high chances of precipitation in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, with heavy rainfall expected until June 30. Maharashtra is also forecasted to receive heavy rainfall on June 27 and June 28. Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh are expected to experience heavy rainfall until June 30. Furthermore, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab should brace for heavy rainfall over the next three days.
The IMD bulletin states, “Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely along the West Peninsular Coast during next 3-4 days and over Northeast India likely during 27th-30th June.” The bulletin continues, “Rainfall activity is likely to increase over Northwest India with heavy to very heavy rainfall likely during 28th-30th June.”
The weather agency also predicts isolated very heavy rainfall in various regions: Assam, Meghalaya, Andaman & Nicobar Islands on June 27; Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from June 27 to June 30; Bihar on June 27, June 29, and June 30; Jharkhand from June 28 to June 30; Odisha on June 29; Gangetic West Bengal on June 30. Additionally, isolated very heavy rainfall is anticipated over Odisha on June 27 and June 28; Arunachal Pradesh from June 27 to June 30; and Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from June 28 to June 30.
In Delhi-NCR, residents should prepare for showers throughout the day, with the IMD forecasting a generally cloudy sky with very light rain and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds (speed 25-35 kmph). The minimum and maximum temperatures in Delhi are expected to settle around 29 and 30 degrees Celsius, respectively, with 83 per cent humidity. A yellow alert for light showers is in place for the next five days, except for June 30, when the rainfall warning has been upgraded to an orange alert.
