Delhi experienced heavy rainfall on Friday, leading to severe traffic congestion and waterlogging across the national capital. The downpour resulted in significant delays for commuters and caused widespread disruption.
Areas like Dhaula Kuan and South Moti Bagh witnessed heavy traffic jams. The Delhi Traffic Police issued an alert, informing the public about traffic disruptions on GTK Road due to waterlogging near GTK Depot. The police advised commuters to use Road No. 51 to reach the NPL side. Additionally, traffic was affected on MB Road in the carriageway from Khanpur towards Saket Metro Station due to ongoing construction work by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) near the SDM office. The Delhi Traffic Police urged commuters to plan their journeys accordingly.
Waterlogging at Anand Parvat impacted traffic on New Rohtak Road, affecting both carriageways from Zakhira to Kamal T-Point. Traffic coming from Liberty Cinema towards Punjabi Bagh was diverted from Kamal T Point towards Vir Banda Bairagi Marg, reaching Punjabi Bagh through Swami Narayan Marg, Inderlok, and Ashik Vihar.
Commuters faced significant delays and difficult travel conditions. One individual, on their way to work, reported getting off a bus due to traffic congestion and wading across the street. Another person, Moolchand, stated that he had been stuck in traffic since 10:30 AM and had walked 2 kilometers due to the severe congestion caused by waterlogged roads.
The India Meteorological Department issued a forecast for light to moderate rainfall accompanied by light thunderstorms and lightning in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), including areas like Chhapraula, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Faridabad, and Ballabhgarh, for the next two hours.
The heavy rainfall and its impact on traffic highlighted the challenges faced by residents during monsoon season in Delhi. Waterlogging and traffic congestion remain recurring issues, disrupting daily life and impacting commutes. The authorities continue to work on addressing these issues and improving infrastructure to mitigate the impact of such events.
