Heavy rain in Kerala has caused significant disruptions to train services and tragically resulted in landslides in the Wayanad district.
A stationary watchman was forced to halt train number 16526 between Valathol Nagar and Wadakancheri due to heavy rain and water flowing onto the tracks in Thiruvananthapuram. The waterlogging between these two stations led to the partial cancellation of several train services.
Train number 16305, the Ernakulam-Kannur Intercity Express, will be short-terminated at Thrissur. Train number 16791, the Tirunelveli-Palakkad Palaruvi Express, will also be short-terminated, this time at Aluva. Train number 16302, the Thiruvananthapuram-Shoranur Venad Express, will be short-terminated at Chalakkudy.
Meanwhile, the death toll from the landslides in Kerala’s Wayanad district has risen to 23, according to State Health Minister Veena George. Four people, including a child, lost their lives in Chooralmala town, while a one-year-old child from a Nepalese family perished in Thondernad village.
To assist with rescue operations, 225 Army personnel have been deployed in Wayanad. The landslides have claimed 11 lives, officials reported on Tuesday.
