Heavy Rains Expected Across India: IMD Issues Alerts in Several States

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy to extremely heavy rains in several parts of the country on August 3rd. The daily bulletin states that isolated extremely heavy rainfall is predicted over East Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra on August 3rd; West Madhya Pradesh on August 3rd and 4th; Gujarat Region, Konkan & Goa on August 3rd.

An orange alert for very heavy rains has been issued for Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat State, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

In Maharashtra, the Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a red alert for Pune and Satara. An orange alert for very heavy rains has been issued for Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, while a yellow alert has been issued for Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Nasik, and Kolhapur.

In Kerala’s Wayanad, two massive landslides hit Chooralmala and Mundakkai on July 30th, causing widespread devastation and loss of lives and property. A heavy rainfall warning has been issued for the state today.

Very heavy rainfall is predicted over Coastal Karnataka during August 2nd-4th, while heavy rain has been predicted over Kerala and Mahe during August 2nd-4th; Coastal Karnataka during August 5th-7th; North Interior Karnataka on August 2nd and 3rd; South Interior Karnataka on August 3rd and 4th.

In Northwest India, isolated extremely heavy rains have been predicted over East Rajasthan on August 4th, while very heavy rains are also likely over East Rajasthan on August 2nd and 3rd, Uttarakhand on August 3rd and 8th; East Uttar Pradesh on August 2nd; West Rajasthan on August 2nd and 5th.

The weather department has predicted heavy to very heavy rains over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar during August 3rd-6th; Gangetic West Bengal on August 2nd; Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during August 2nd-6th.

The weather office also predicted very heavy rains over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya on August 7th and 8th; Gangetic West Bengal on August 7th and 8th; Jharkhand on August 3rd, 7th and 8th; Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Bihar on August 7th and 8th.
