Heavy Rains Expected Across India: Orange Alert Issued for Multiple States

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall across various parts of India on Monday, September 2nd. The rainfall is expected to be particularly intense in regions like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Meghalaya, and Mizoram.

Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, which have been grappling with severe floods and waterlogging for the past two days, are bracing for more rainfall. The IMD has issued an orange alert for Telangana, the Gujarat region, Assam & Meghalaya, and west Madhya Pradesh.

Specifically, the IMD has predicted:

Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls (above 20 cm) at isolated places over Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall (≥ 12 cm) very likely at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Gujarat Region, and Marathwada.

Heavy rainfall (≥ 7 cm) at isolated places over Uttarakhand and East Rajasthan.

The IMD also forecasts thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds in Telangana, lightning in Bihar, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Konkan & Goa, coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh.

Squally weather with wind speeds reaching 35-45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, is expected over the north Arabian Sea, many parts of the west central and northwest Arabian Sea, and adjoining areas.

Heavy rainfall is likely to continue in Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Kerala, and Mahe from September 2nd to 4th. Eastern Rajasthan is expected to receive heavy rainfall over the next 7 days. Uttarakhand will experience heavy rainfall from September 2nd to 4th, while West Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive heavy rainfall on September 3rd and 4th.
