The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Arunachal Pradesh, predicting extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places. The alert comes as the weather department anticipates heavy to very heavy rainfall over Northwest and Northeast India for the next 4-5 days.
The Regional Meteorological Centres have also issued an orange alert for the Delhi and Mumbai regions. From June 30 to July 3, isolated very heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra. Uttarakhand is expected to witness isolated very heavy rainfall from June 30 to July 3, while Himachal Pradesh and Punjab are likely to experience very heavy rainfall between June 30 and July 2. Haryana-Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan are also expected to receive very heavy rainfall between June 29 and July 2. West Madhya Pradesh is likely to witness very heavy rainfall on July 1 and 2.
Northeast India, including Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, is likely to experience widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall during the next 5 days.
Other regions expected to receive isolated heavy rainfall include Saurashtra & Kutch, Kerala & Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka from June 29 to July 1. Gujarat Region, Konkan & Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra are likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall between June 29 and July 3.
The heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand has already led to flooding in the Sukhi river, which joins the mainstream of the Ganga, resulting in several vehicles being swept away.
The southwest monsoon has further advanced into the remaining parts of east Uttar Pradesh and some areas of west Uttar Pradesh. The IMD reports that the maximum temperature is unlikely to change in most parts of the country.
