Telangana is experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall, leading to widespread flooding in low-lying areas and disrupting road connections between several villages. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert, predicting very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in isolated locations in districts such as Adilabad, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Narayanpet, and others.
The IMD has also forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in other areas, including Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Jagital, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Warangal, and surrounding districts.
To address the potential for flooding, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are currently stationed in Hyderabad and Vijayawada, ready for deployment if needed. The IMD has also warned of flash flood risks in the next 24 hours for several districts, including Adilabad, B. Kothagudem, J. Bhupalpally, Jagtial, Jangaon, Khammam, Kumaram Bheem, Mahabubabad, Mancherial, Nalgonda, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Peddapalle, Rajanna Sircilla, Sidipet, Suryapet, Warangal_Rural, and Warangal_Urban.
In response to the severe weather, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has instructed officials from all government departments to remain vigilant and implement measures to prevent any incidents. He has also recommended immediate relocation of residents from low-lying areas to relief camps.
Due to the heavy rain forecast and the red alert issued for Hyderabad district, all primary and secondary schools will be closed on September 2nd.
The state government is taking proactive measures to minimize damage and ensure public safety. The Chief Secretary, Santhi Kumari, and DGP Jitender have held a teleconference with Collectors, SPs, and other officials from all districts. They have emphasized the importance of taking precautions to prevent loss of life and property.
Control rooms have been set up in every district Collector’s office, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and the state Secretariat. Authorities are urging parents and guardians to closely monitor weather warnings and prioritize their children’s safety during this period. The state has prepared a plan to evacuate residents from flood-affected areas and set up relief camps.
