Heavy Rains Forecast for Northeast India and South Gujarat, Red Alert Issued

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for South Gujarat, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya due to anticipated heavy rainfall. South Gujarat is expected to experience isolated extremely heavy rainfall on Thursday, while Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya are likely to witness heavy rainfall on July 4 and 5. The IMD has predicted a heavy to very heavy rainfall spell over Northwest and East India, with very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall anticipated in Northeast India over the next 4-5 days.

The weather department has also issued an orange alert for various other regions. Jammu Division is expected to receive isolated very heavy rainfall on July 5, while Himachal Pradesh is likely to experience the same on July 4 and 5. Uttarakhand is predicted to receive heavy rainfall between July 4 and 7, Punjab on July 5, and Uttar Pradesh on July 5 and 6. East Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh are expected to experience heavy rains on July 4.

Bihar may witness isolated very heavy rainfall on July 4 and 5, while Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to receive heavy rainfall between July 4 and 6. Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura are predicted to receive heavy rainfall on July 6, followed by Assam and Meghalaya on July 6 and 7, and Odisha on July 7. Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad between July 4 and 6.

The IMD has also forecast fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning over Kerala and Mahe, Lakshadweep, Coastal Karnataka, Konkan & Goa, and Gujarat State. Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, and Interior Karnataka. Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall is anticipated over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Rayalaseema, and Telangana during the next five days.

The weather department has also cautioned about potential flash floods. Moderate flash flood risk is likely over a few watersheds and neighborhoods in Uttarakhand. Low to moderate flash flood risk is expected over a few watersheds and neighborhoods in East Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh, as well as neighborhoods in South Gujarat Region, Konkan & Goa, and Coastal Karnataka.
