Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren approached the Supreme Court on Wednesday, seeking relief over the delay in judgment delivery by the High Court in his money laundering case. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had arrested Soren in January, alleging manipulation of official land records to acquire large parcels of property. Despite the verdict being reserved in February, the order remains pending, keeping Soren in jail as elections approach. Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Soren, presented the case before a bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta, highlighting the urgency as the delay could significantly impact the upcoming election. Soren’s arrest followed a seven-hour interrogation by the Enforcement Directorate. The case involves allegations of money laundering through bogus land deals, with the ED claiming proceeds of crime amounting to several crores. Prior to his arrest, Soren was interrogated for several hours by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the case. Upon his resignation, State Transport Minister Champai Soren was appointed as his successor.
