Hermès Unveils ‘Barenia,’ Its First Chypre Fragrance

Hermès, renowned for its luxurious craftsmanship, has ventured into the world of chypre fragrances with the launch of ‘Barenia,’ a captivating scent created by Christine Nagel, the brand’s fragrance director. This innovative scent marks Hermès’s first foray into the chypre fragrance family, known for its rich and complex aromas.

‘Barenia’ is a sensory journey that evokes the essence of leather, a material deeply rooted in Hermès’s heritage. The fragrance’s name, ‘Barenia,’ itself translates to ‘tanned leather,’ reflecting the scent’s ability to envelop the wearer like a luxurious leather garment.

The olfactory experience begins with a surprising blend of delicate ginger lily and vibrant miracle berry. This unexpected combination sets the stage for a sensual journey that unfolds with the warmth of oakwood and the depth of patchouli, creating a captivating and long-lasting aroma.

The fragrance’s bottle design is a testament to Hermès’s commitment to aesthetic excellence. Philippe Mouke, a long-time collaborator with the brand, has designed the bottle, drawing inspiration from the iconic ‘Collier de Chien’ bracelet. This signature Hermès piece, known for its elegant silhouette and pyramid studs, finds a new expression in the fragrance’s elliptical bottle, adorned with four pyramid studs echoing the bracelet’s design.

The bottle’s metallic accents and the outer box, featuring Hermès’s signature ‘H’ intertwined with an elliptical shape, add a touch of sophistication, further enhancing the fragrance’s luxurious appeal.

‘Barenia’ is available in 60ml and 100ml formats, along with a travel set containing four 15ml sprays and a 125ml refill. The fragrance collection is complemented by a chypre-scented aroma soap embossed with the iconic ‘H’ symbol.

‘Barenia’ will be available at Hermès Ginza Maison, online boutique, and select Hermès stores starting September 2, 2024. The fragrance will be available nationwide starting September 11, 2024. This new addition to Hermès’s fragrance legacy promises to captivate and inspire, solidifying the brand’s position as a leader in the world of luxurious scents.
