Hermès, renowned for its exquisite craftsmanship and iconic designs, has expanded its watchmaking repertoire with the introduction of Hermès Cut, the brand’s first sports watch specifically crafted for women.
Delving into the origins of Hermès Cut, Creative Director for Watches Philippe Delhotal reveals that the journey began three years ago with the aspiration to create a timepiece that embodies sporty elegance and aligns with the active lifestyles of women today.
The design of Hermès Cut is a testament to Hermès’s commitment to innovative aesthetics. The watch features a distinctive non-circular case, aptly named ‘Cut,’ which takes its inspiration from the act of cutting and shaping materials to create objects with simple yet purposeful forms. This concept of ‘vocabulary of shapes’ is central to Delhotal’s design philosophy, and with Hermès Cut, the focus is on simplicity and functionality.
The Hermès Cut case is meticulously crafted from stainless steel and is available with the option of rose gold accents and diamonds, exuding a luxurious touch while maintaining its sporty appeal. The crown, typically a prominent feature on watches, has been cleverly integrated into the case at the 1.30 position, ensuring a harmonious and streamlined design.
Complementing the unique case design, Hermès Cut features a dial that showcases the brand’s attention to detail and mastery of typography. The applied numerals are subtle yet legible, with the counters of numbers zero, six, eight, and nine mirroring the shape of the watch case. The time-only display is a testament to the watch’s focus on simplicity and functionality, allowing the wearer to effortlessly read the time at a glance.
In a departure from the brand’s equestrian codes, Hermès Cut is offered exclusively with metal bracelets and colorful rubber straps, catering to both active and sedentary lifestyles. The patented release mechanism seamlessly integrated into the underside of the case allows for effortless interchangeability of the straps, giving the wearer the versatility to customize their timepiece according to their mood or occasion.
Powering the Hermès Cut is the in-house H1912 movement, a testament to the brand’s watchmaking prowess. This automatic movement ensures precision and reliability, providing the watch with a dependable source of energy.
The Hermès Cut is a groundbreaking addition to Hermès’s watchmaking collection, seamlessly blending sporty elegance with innovative design. Its unique case shape, subtle typography, and versatile strap options make it an ideal choice for women seeking a timepiece that embodies both style and functionality. The watch is now available online and at select Hermès boutiques worldwide.
