The Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) is thrilled to announce the return of the HIGHLANDER Adventure, organized by the esteemed HIGHLANDER international hiking association. Scheduled from February 7-9, 2025, this premier long-distance hiking event invites adventurers to challenge themselves on the breathtaking trails of Jebel Jais, home to the UAE’s most extensive hiking network, spanning a remarkable 80 kilometers. This event presents a unique opportunity to explore heritage sites, ancient Emirati settlements, and active farms, offering a glimpse into Ras Al Khaimah’s rich history and cultural diversity. Participants will witness firsthand how local communities have thrived in this rugged terrain for centuries.
Building upon the success of previous events, the 2025 edition introduces three distinct hiking formats, each offering a unique challenge for adventure enthusiasts. HIGHLANDER Pegasus, a 40km three-day backpacking challenge, takes place from February 7-9, and is inspired by the mythological winged horse and the northern sky constellation. Participants will embark on an unforgettable journey, carrying all necessary gear, including camping and cooking equipment, immersing themselves in the natural beauty of Ras Al Khaimah while camping under the stars each night.
HIGHLANDER Orion, a 25km two-day trek from February 8-9, is named after the prominent winter constellation in the northern hemisphere. Similar to the Pegasus format, participants will be responsible for carrying all their gear, allowing them to fully experience the rugged terrain and breathtaking landscapes of Ras Al Khaimah.
The newest addition to this year’s event is HIGHLANDER Lyra, a 20km single-day hike on February 9. Named after the harmonious Lyre from Greek mythology and one of the smallest constellations, this format offers a balanced mix of challenge and enjoyment. Perfect for those seeking to build confidence, skills, and stamina for more extensive hikes, the Lyra format requires only essential day hiking gear.
All three challenges are meticulously supervised by the organizers, fostering a sense of community among international adventure lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. As participants traverse historic settlements and active farms, they will gain a deeper appreciation for the cultural and historical richness of Ras Al Khaimah.
