Hilton San Francisco Union Square is thrilled to announce the grand reopening of its iconic sky bar, Cityscape, on Sunday, September 15, 2024. Nestled on the 46th floor, Cityscape offers breathtaking 360-degree views of San Francisco, seamlessly merging the city’s beauty with the cosmic wonders above.
The bar has undergone a captivating transformation, showcasing original mid-century modern artwork that was rediscovered after being hidden for decades since the hotel’s opening in 1964. The centerpiece is a series of captivating panels known as “Celestial Sisters,” paying homage to the divine goddesses of the night sky.
These panels, once thought to adorn the historic Fox Theater, were salvaged in a daring helicopter operation before the theater’s closure in 1963. After gracing Phil Lehr’s Steakhouse and Henri’s Room (Cityscape’s predecessor), the panels were covered and forgotten—until now. Their restoration breathes new life into Cityscape, where history, art, and mythology intertwine.
“These panels, now fully restored, are not just decorations—they are a vital part of San Francisco’s cultural legacy,” said Nick Graham-Wells, Hilton San Francisco Complex Director of Marketing. “Hilton San Francisco Union Square is proud to showcase them in a way that honors their origins.”
The redesign of Cityscape, masterminded by Graham-Wells and renowned local event designer Edward Perotti, transcends time and place, blending the charm of San Francisco’s skyline with a celestial escape. With a harmonious fusion of historic art and modern touches, Cityscape has been transformed into a sophisticated and magical destination.
Inspired by the celestial goddesses depicted in the rediscovered artwork, Cityscape’s General Manager, Brian Howard, has crafted a new cocktail menu, “Cocktails of the Cosmos,” where each drink celebrates these divine guardians of the night sky. Guests can now embark on an ethereal journey, one sip at a time.
