Hinge Introduces ‘Hidden Words’ Feature to Curb Harassment in DMs

Hinge is enhancing its user experience with the introduction of ‘Hidden Words,’ a feature designed to combat online harassment. With this new feature, users have the ability to filter out likes from potential matches whose introductory messages contain words or phrases they deem unacceptable.

Similar to mute filters on social media platforms, Hidden Words operates by allowing users to specify words and phrases they wish to avoid. If a like received contains any of these hidden words, the corresponding profile will not appear in the user’s regular like list but will be diverted to a separate ‘Hidden Likes’ section. This section provides users with the option to review these comments or delete them altogether.

Hinge users can add up to 1,000 hidden words to their profile. The company’s product lead, Jeff Dunn, has hinted at future expansions to the Hidden Words feature’s capabilities, including the potential for filtering in chat conversations.

Hinge’s commitment to user safety is evident in its ongoing development of features like Hidden Words. This latest addition to its safety toolkit empowers users to create a more positive and respectful dating experience by minimizing exposure to inappropriate or offensive language.
