Hockey Canada Appoints Trevor Murphy as Vice-President of Hockey Development

Hockey Canada has announced the appointment of Trevor Murphy as their new Vice-President of Hockey Development. In a statement released on Wednesday, the governing body stated that Murphy will be entrusted with the crucial task of spearheading the development of grassroots hockey throughout Canada.

Murphy, hailing from Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador, most recently held a prominent position within the senior leadership team of the 2025 Canada Games Host Society. Prior to this role, he held executive positions with the St. John’s IceCaps of the American Hockey League and the ECHL’s Newfoundland Growlers, demonstrating his extensive experience in the hockey landscape.

His journey with Hockey Canada dates back to 2003, where he served as the manager of their regional center in Saint John, New Brunswick, until 2008. Following this tenure, he spent three seasons with the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers, contributing to their community and consumer partnerships initiatives.

Murphy is set to join Hockey Canada’s senior leadership team on Monday and will be based in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. “From grassroots to high-performance, development on and off the ice is something that should be a key focus for all leaders in the game and I am excited to get to work in this new role,” expressed Murphy in a release.

This appointment comes as Hockey Canada continues to navigate a challenging period following allegations of sexual misconduct and financial mismanagement. Murphy’s extensive experience and commitment to developing hockey at all levels are expected to be crucial as the organization strives to rebuild trust and move forward.
