The relentless Southern California heat wave has continued to wreak havoc, causing widespread power outages across the region, including one that impacted a beloved Los Angeles landmark. The Hollywood Bowl, a renowned outdoor amphitheater, was forced to cancel a concert scheduled for Sunday evening due to a power outage.
The concert, part of the KCRW Festival, was set to feature the popular Australian singer-songwriter Vance Joy, the indie pop band Grouplove, and the up-and-coming musical act Tiny Habits. However, the power outage left the venue without electricity, making it impossible to proceed with the performance.
The Hollywood Bowl announced that they are working to reschedule the concert and will honor all tickets purchased for the original date. Updates regarding the new date and time will be shared with ticket holders as they become available.
This power outage is just one of many that have been reported across Southern California as a result of the extreme heat. As of Sunday evening, Southern California Edison was responding to approximately 60 separate outages affecting over 6,000 customers in a service area spanning five counties. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power reported roughly 6,600 customers without power, representing a small fraction of its 1.5 million total customers. The agency stated that it had restored power to more than 71,000 customers since the beginning of the current heat wave.
The heat wave has placed immense pressure on the electrical grid, highlighting the challenges posed by extreme temperatures and the need for resilient infrastructure. As the heat continues to grip the region, residents are urged to take precautions to stay safe and conserve energy.
