After 117 years of nurturing young minds and serving as a cornerstone of the Regina community, Holy Rosary Community School is preparing to close its doors. The school’s final graduating class will mark the end of an era, leaving behind a legacy of education and community involvement. Teacher Cheri Meadowcroft shared her bittersweet emotions, reflecting on the remarkable growth and learning witnessed within the school’s walls. However, the closure also brings a sense of loss and change for the tight-knit community.
The school building will be demolished in late June, and students will continue their education at Sacred Heart Community School in the fall. Meadowcroft expressed her gratitude for the unwavering support of the community, noting that generations of families have attended Holy Rosary. While some students may feel anxious about the transition to a new school, others are filled with excitement. The staff transfers have yet to be finalized.
Meadowcroft emphasized the school’s pivotal role within the community, serving as a hub for countless events and activities. She expressed her hope that the vacant lot will be repurposed for a new facility that continues to benefit the community, potentially a community center, garden, or space offering programming for seniors and children.
Alumni recently visited the school for a final walk through the halls, reminiscing about their time there. Meadowcroft shared that the school will be missed but that change can bring new opportunities and experiences. She remains hopeful that the legacy of Holy Rosary Community School will continue to inspire the community in the years to come. The closure of Holy Rosary Community School marks a significant moment in Regina’s educational landscape. The school has played an integral role in shaping generations of students and fostering a sense of community. As the school prepares to close its doors, its legacy will continue to be cherished by the countless individuals whose lives it has touched.
