Home Bargains, the popular budget retailer, is giving its employees a well-deserved extended break this festive season. The company announced a three-day closure for all its stores across the UK over Christmas and New Year.
All Home Bargains outlets will remain closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day (December 26th, 2024), and New Year’s Day (January 1st, 2025). This closure will allow staff members to enjoy the festive season with their families and friends. Additionally, on Christmas Eve, all shops will close early at 5 pm, giving employees ample time to join festive celebrations with loved ones.
A spokesperson for Home Bargains explained the decision, stating, “We know how hard all our colleagues have worked throughout the year. Being a family-run business, we recognise the importance of spending quality time with our loved ones. Therefore, we feel it is only right to support our valued store teams by giving them extended time off around Christmas and New Year.”
This is not the first time Home Bargains has implemented this extended closure policy. Last year, they followed a similar approach, closing their doors over the same festive dates. The company is not alone in closing for the holidays. Last year, several other retailers, including Aldi, Iceland, Poundland, Waitrose, and Marks and Spencer, closed their doors on Christmas and Boxing Day. However, Lidl and Home Bargains both chose to remain closed on New Year’s Day as well. John Lewis also closed several of its outlets on New Year’s Day, though its branch at the Trafford Centre stayed open.
Home Bargains’ decision to prioritize employee well-being during the holidays is a welcome gesture, reflecting the importance of work-life balance, particularly during a busy and often stressful time of year.
