Hong Kong Airlines Expands Regional Presence with Direct Flights to Vientiane, Laos

Situated strategically in Southeast Asia, Laos shares borders with China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, and Myanmar, making it a pivotal country within China’s Belt and Road Initiative. This connection between Southwest China and Southeast Asia facilitates economic collaboration, trade, and tourism across the regions.

A modest ceremony officiated by Mr. Gary Zhan, President of Hong Kong Airlines, alongside dignitaries, marked the launch of this new route at Hong Kong International Airport. Speaking at the inaugural flight celebration, Mr. Zhan emphasized the strategic importance of operating routes along the Belt and Road Initiative and the airline’s commitment to contributing to its development by fostering connectivity and promoting collaboration.

Over the years, Hong Kong Airlines has been operating scheduled flights to various Belt and Road destinations, including Denpasar in Indonesia, Bangkok in Thailand, Seoul in Korea, and over 10 cities in Mainland China. The addition of the Vientiane service further strengthens the airline’s presence in the region.

Since completing its restructuring last April, Hong Kong Airlines has regained a healthy operating track record and reconnected with the world by gradually resuming routes and opening new destinations. The airline has been actively expanding its fleet and recruiting locally and globally to meet the demands of its business recovery and growth. Its route network currently encompasses close to 30 destinations, and the average passenger load factor has rebounded to 85%.

Laos boasts breathtaking natural scenery, a rich cultural heritage, and historical landmarks that continue to attract tourists. Its verdant jungles, majestic waterfalls, stunning mountains, and unspoiled national parks like Phou Hin Boun and Nam Et-Phou Louey remain largely undiscovered, making Laos a captivating destination for those seeking genuine experiences.

The country has successfully preserved its traditional customs and way of life, offering visitors the opportunity to explore ancient temples, such as the UNESCO World Heritage-listed town of Luang Prabang, renowned for its well-preserved Buddhist monasteries and enchanting architecture.
