Hong Kong Airlines has announced the launch of a new route to Xining in Qinghai Province, China, with two weekly flights commencing from July 9, 2024. This direct flight service aims to enhance connectivity between Hong Kong and mainland China, particularly the western regions.
Xining, located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, holds significant importance as a vital link between China’s eastern and western regions, including Tibet. Economically, Xining serves as the central hub of Qinghai Province, playing a crucial role in agriculture, energy, and tourism. It facilitates economic and trade ties between Qinghai and Tibet.
Beyond its economic significance, Xining is a culturally rich city deeply rooted in Tibetan culture. With a rich history and traditions, it stands as a cultural hub for Tibetans, offering travelers a blend of eastern and western Chinese cultures and serving as a gateway to explore Tibet. Nearby attractions include the iconic Kumbum Monastery, Qinghai Lake – China’s largest inland saltwater lake, and the stunning Chaka Salt Lake, known as the “Mirror of the Sky.”
Since May 27, Xining has been included in the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) for travel to Hong Kong and Macau, facilitating spontaneous trips for local travelers. This new flight service further promotes connectivity, enabling Hong Kong residents to explore western Chinese cities and experience Xining’s unique cultural landscapes.
This initiative aims to foster cultural and economic exchanges between the regions and international travelers. Hong Kong Airlines is dedicated to expanding travel options by strategically adding routes with substantial market potential to its network. This move supports China’s Belt and Road Initiative, strengthens global trade ties, and reinforces Hong Kong’s role as an international aviation hub.
