Hong Kong Airport Chief Meets with Mainland Official, Pledges Support for National Development

On Friday, July 5, 2024, a significant meeting took place at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing. Xia Baolong, the Director of the State Council Hong Kong & Macao Affairs Office, met with a delegation from the Airport Authority, led by its Chairman Fred Lam.

During the meeting, Mr. Xia expressed his admiration for the remarkable progress and achievements made by Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) in recent years. He emphasized the crucial role HKIA plays in the nation’s development and encouraged the management team to wholeheartedly support Chief Executive John Lee and the Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government in their efforts to govern Hong Kong according to the law.

Mr. Xia stressed the importance of leveraging Hong Kong’s unique position and inherent strengths within the framework of “one country, two systems”. He highlighted the opportunities for HKIA to contribute significantly to the national development agenda.

In response, Mr. Lam reaffirmed the Airport Authority’s commitment to capitalizing on HKIA’s strategic advantage. He acknowledged the strong support received from the mainland and the airport’s robust global connections. With this foundation, Mr. Lam expressed his vision for developing HKIA into a world-class international aviation hub, further solidifying its position as a vital contributor to the region’s economic growth and global connectivity.
