Hong Kong took center stage on December 13th, 2024, as a significant forum convened to address the critical issue of sustainable development. CEO John Lee opened the forum by emphasizing the unprecedented acceleration of global change and the critical responsibility of this generation to find sustainable solutions. A key roundtable discussion, “Green Businesses and Beyond,” moderated by Henry Ho, President of the OCTS Youth Forum, featured insightful contributions from various experts. Johannes Hack, Vice President of the European Chamber of Commerce, stressed Hong Kong’s pivotal role in mobilizing capital for global green projects. Joseph Law, CEO of CLP Power HK, detailed the company’s carbon credit program aimed at supporting businesses in their decarbonization efforts. Nick Chan, Director of the AALCO HK Regional Arbitration Centre, highlighted the increasing reliance of Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries on Chinese technology for their green transformation. Paul Pong, Founder of the Institute of ESG and Benchmark, emphasized that adopting Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices can lead to increased profitability for businesses.
Another panel, “Innovation Drives Greener Future,” moderated by Witman Hung, member of the Global Council of World Summit Awards, focused on technological innovation and its contribution to a sustainable future. Samuel Chui, Director of Environmental Protection, showcased Hong Kong’s ambitious goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Peng Gong, Vice President of HKU, and Michael Yang, First Vice President of CityUHK, both stressed the potential of innovative technologies to solve climate change challenges and boost productivity in the green economy. Albert Oung, Founder and President of the World Green Organization, emphasized that technological advancements must benefit both humanity and the environment.
