Hong Kong has been selected as the host for the 2025 Routes World Conference, a renowned event that attracts global leaders from the aviation sector. Scheduled to take place from September 24-26 at AsiaWorld-Expo, the conference is facilitated by Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) with the support of the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
The Routes World Conference serves as a platform for industry professionals, including airline executives, airport authorities, and destination representatives, to connect and shape the future of air travel. The 30th edition of the conference is expected to draw key network planning executives from over 260 prominent and rapidly expanding airlines.
Hosting Routes World presents significant economic benefits, with a typical event generating an economic impact exceeding $590 million. This boost primarily stems from the establishment of new air routes facilitated by the event’s high visibility. In March 2024, HKIA witnessed notable growth, handling 4.36 million passengers and 29,840 flight movements, marking increases of 56.7% and 48.2% respectively compared to the previous year.
Anticipating the completion of its Three-runway System (3RS) by the end of the year, HKIA is strategically planning to enhance its global connectivity. The airport aims to target new markets in the Greater Bay Area, Mainland China, countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, and the Middle East, following the 3RS completion which will significantly increase the airport’s capacity.
Steven Small, director of Routes, expressed delight at Hong Kong’s selection as the host for the 2025 Routes World Conference. He emphasized the event’s competitive nature and highlighted Hong Kong’s advantageous location, with half of the world’s population living within a 5-hour flight of HKIA. Small anticipates that decision makers from over 130 countries will attend the conference, providing Hong Kong with an opportunity to showcase its significant infrastructure developments.
Vivian Cheung, Chief Operating Officer of Airport Authority Hong Kong, emphasized the alignment of Routes World with Hong Kong’s commitment to strengthening its position as an international aviation hub. She expressed excitement at welcoming industry leaders from around the globe and hopes that the event will facilitate the establishment of new routes connecting Hong Kong with more destinations.
