The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) is embracing the Central Government’s recent decision to increase the duty-free allowance for Mainland residents bringing goods from Hong Kong into the Mainland with the launch of the ‘Summer Chill Hong Kong’ campaign. This initiative aims to further boost tourism and encourage visitor spending in the city.
A key component of the campaign is the ‘Summer Triple Rewards’ promotion. This program will distribute 500,000 sets of rewards to overnight visitors, valued at over HK$100 million. Each set comprises three coupons offering discounts of up to HK$500 on transportation/sightseeing, retail purchases, and dining. Visitors can claim one set of rewards per stay on a first-come, first-served basis.
The rewards include discounts on various transportation options, such as the MTR Airport Express, Star Ferry Water Tour, and HK Tramway, along with dining vouchers offering HK$100 off purchases of HK$200 or more at over 1,000 certified restaurants and hotel dining establishments. Shopping rewards also offer HK$100 off purchases of HK$200 or more at over 2,700 certified retail outlets and attraction stores.
In addition to the ‘Summer Triple Rewards,’ HKTB is collaborating with over 100 city brands to introduce a diverse range of summer offers across airlines, attractions, dining, retail, shopping malls, and travel agencies. This collaboration aims to create a vibrant summer atmosphere for both locals and visitors.
HKTB is also supporting various trade activities, including the ‘Hong Kong Shopping Festival 2024,’ organized by the Hong Kong Retail Management Association. The festival aims to provide an enhanced shopping experience with exclusive privileges and excellent service, solidifying Hong Kong’s reputation as a hospitable city and an experiential shopping paradise.
Furthermore, HKTB is decorating key city locations with vibrant summer-themed decorations to create an energetic and cheerful city-wide ambiance. These locations include the Kowloon Visitor Centre, the Central-Mid-Levels escalator, various border control points, Hong Kong International Airport, Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, selected MTR stations, Airport Express stations, trams, Star Ferries, buses, the SOGO Causeway Bay bus stop, and shopping malls.
To amplify the summer festivities, HKTB is promoting one of the world’s largest Doraemon exhibitions, ‘100% DORAEMON & FRIENDS.’ In collaboration with creative brand AllRightsReserved, HKTB is bringing the beloved character’s ‘Anywhere Door’ to Hong Kong. Ten iconic locations across Kowloon and Hong Kong Island will be adorned with these whimsical pink doors from July 9 to August 8. Visitors can snap a photo at each spot and share it on social media for a chance to win exclusive pins and premium gifts.
To further enhance promotional efforts, HKTB has launched a dedicated ‘Summer Chill Hong Kong’ website. This platform provides details on all summer events and concerts in the city, alongside exclusive discounts and offers. It also offers curated recommendations for attractions, helping both visitors and locals plan their summer activities efficiently.
The ‘Summer Chill Hong Kong’ campaign, running from July to September, promises an exhilarating summer experience with its diverse offerings and vibrant atmosphere. It aims to attract visitors, encourage spending, and showcase Hong Kong’s unique blend of cultural experiences, shopping opportunities, and lively entertainment.
