Hong Kong Tourism Booms in May with 3.4 Million Visitors

Hong Kong’s tourism industry continued its impressive recovery in May, with the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) reporting provisional visitor arrivals of 3.4 million. This represents a substantial 20% increase compared to the same period last year.

Mainland visitors remained a key driver of the growth, accounting for 2.63 million of the total arrivals. This number marks a 15% rise from May 2023. However, non-Mainland visitors saw an even more significant surge, experiencing a 43% year-on-year increase, surpassing 770,000.

The strong performance in May builds upon a positive trend observed earlier in the year. From January to May, Hong Kong welcomed a total of 18 million visitors, signifying an 80% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This surge in visitor numbers underscores the city’s appeal as a destination and reflects the ongoing recovery of the global tourism sector.
