Hong Kong Trunk Road Project Cost Revised Downward by Nearly 5%

In response to lawmakers’ concerns about the substantial increase in the project’s estimated cost, the Civil Engineering and Development Department has reassessed the proposed scope of works, estimated construction cost, and cash flow for the project. The planned T4 road aims to provide a direct connection between Sha Tin, Ma On Shan, Tsuen Wan, and Kowloon East, alleviating traffic congestion in the Sha Tin district. The initial cost estimate for the project in 2006 was HK$1.1 billion, but the latest revision brings the total estimated cost to HK$6.81 billion, significantly higher than the original estimate. The revised funding request was submitted in an effort to address lawmakers’ concerns and ensure that the project remains within the approved budget while meeting its intended purpose of improving traffic flow in the region.
