House Republicans have invited attorney Nathan Wade to testify before the House Judiciary Committee regarding his role in the election interference case against former President Trump.
The invitation comes in the wake of allegations that Wade and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis were romantically involved prior to his hiring, and that Willis financially benefited from the relationship. Both Willis and Wade have denied these allegations.
Wade was tapped by Willis to prosecute the case against Trump, but his role has been called into question due to the alleged relationship and Willis’ alleged misuse of state funds. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said in a statement that Wade’s role in the case is too important to “go unquestioned.”
In a letter to Wade, Jordan said that there are “serious concerns” about his role in the prosecution and that he has reportedly “profited significantly” from it. Jordan also noted that court filings allege that Wade has been paid “almost seven hundred thousand dollars since May of 2022 alone.”
The Georgia election interference case is one of four cases against Trump, who has denied any wrongdoing. Trump’s attorneys have filed a motion to disqualify Willis from the case due to her alleged misconduct.
The House Judiciary Committee’s investigation into the case is ongoing.
