A new leak has surfaced, showcasing a Huawei foldable phone with a striking billfold design. This follows the initial leak last week that revealed the phone in its open state. This time, the image depicts the phone folded, showcasing three distinct sections that make it unique even among foldable phones. The leak comes from WhyLab on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, and the images feature Huawei executive Richard Yu using the phone.
When folded, the phone resembles the size of a standard iPhone, albeit with a prominent camera block reminiscent of the Huawei Mate series. The images have quickly spread online, igniting curiosity and anticipation. Digital Trends’ Andy Boxall estimated the price to be around $2,780, aligning with the original Huawei Mate X, though this is still speculation based on past precedent. While the phone might appear thick in the leaked images, prototype builds often employ bulky housings for protection and design concealment.
Despite ongoing trade sanctions, the potential availability of this phone in the U.S. remains uncertain. However, the device could utilize the silicon-carbon battery technology that has been implemented in other Chinese smartphone companies like Honor. This battery technology offers advantages like improved energy efficiency and faster charging times.
While the triple-folding phone doesn’t have an official name yet, its appearance in leaked images suggests an imminent release or at least a press conference unveiling to satisfy our curiosity. With the Huawei Mate 70 series slated for release in the fourth quarter, we might not have to wait long to learn more about this intriguing device.
